The Board of Selectmen acts as the Towns
Chief Executive Body responsible for the general welfare of the Community.
Specific powers and responsibilities of the Board of Selectmen are set forth in
Chapter 559 of the Acts of 1953 which is better known as the Town Manager Act
and the General Laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
The board serves as the chief policy making agency of the
town and as the licensing board for the town. It is the local licensing authority for a broad range of activities
including sale of alcoholic beverages, lodging houses, blasting operations,
automobile dealers, junk dealers, pawnbrokers, parking and traffic
regulation, storage of gasoline, restaurants, special events and entertainment.
The Board also has the responsibility to appoint and
oversee the work of the
Town Manager. Annually the Board of Selectmen files with the citizens of
Ashland an Annual Report.
The Board of Selectmen typically meets on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each
month at 7:00 PM in the 2nd Floor Selectmen Meeting Room in Town Hall at 101
