The Ashland Conservation Commission
serves the town in a regulatory and advisory way. The Commission administers
the Massachusetts
Wetlands Protection Act, the Ashland Wetlands Protection Bylaw
[S1] and the Ashland Stormwater Management Bylaw[S2] .
Through these laws the Commission ensures the environment is protected in
order to:

Safeguard the town’s water
supply

Protect groundwater quality and
availability

Control flooding and storm
damage
-
Prevent pollution and erosion
-
Ensure that habitats for
wildlife are preserved
The Conservation Commission consists of
seven members appointed by the Board of Selectmen. Ashland is fortunate to
have members with expertise in environmental planning, environmental
regulation, forestry, geology and wetland science.
Conservation Commission:
A wetlands permit must be obtained for
any construction, cutting, grading or landscaping within 100 feet of
wetlands or 200 feet of perennial streams. A stormwater permit must be
obtained for any project disturbing more than 10,000 square feet of area, or
any project that triggers Site Plan Approval by the Planning Board.
