Ashland Select Board and Town Management - Guiding Values and Principles

Embrace Our Diversity: We celebrate the rich tapestry of experiences that come from being both relative newcomers and generational residents. Our differences make us stronger as a Board and team and help us build a community that’s vibrant and inclusive.

Build a True “Home”: We're committed to creating a place where residents, businesses, and employees feel a deep sense of belonging—a place that’s not just for living and working, but for thriving and growing together. A true home.

Give Back with Gratitude: We are dedicated to giving back to the community that has shaped us. It's our way of showing gratitude for the opportunities and support we’ve received.

Foster Connection: We believe in the power of connection. By nurturing strong relationships, we create a community where everyone feels valued and connected.

Value Every Voice: We take responsibility for contributing to our community and honoring and defending everyone’s perspectives as long as they are rooted in the well being of the community. Every effort counts, and together, we create something greater than the sum of our parts.

Create a Legacy: We're building more than just a community—we’re creating a home for generations to come. A place where our children and their children will feel just as connected and cared for as we do.

Cultivate Generational Volunteerism: We encourage a spirit of volunteerism that spans generations. By working together across age groups, we strengthen our community and pass on the value of giving back.

These statements reflect a shared commitment to building an Ashland that’s grounded in connection, responsibility, and the pursuit of a lasting home for all.

About the Board

The Ashland Select Board consists of five members each elected for three year term. Specific powers and responsibilities of the Select Board are set forth in the Town's Charter.

The Board serves as the chief policy-making body of the town. It is the local licensing authority for a broad range of activities including sale of alcoholic beverages, lodging houses, blasting operations, automobile dealers, junk dealers, pawnbrokers, parking and traffic regulation, storage of gasoline, restaurants, special events and entertainment.

The Board also has the responsibility to appoint and oversee the work of the Town Manager. They appoint Town Counsel and oversee matters of litigation related to the town. They enact rules and regulations for a wide variety of issues related to the town.

The Board typically meets on the first and third Wednesdays of the month.  Most meetings begin with "Citizen's Participation" which is another way to communication with the board.
