Greetings family, friends and colleagues ,
I am running the Boston Marathon this year! As most of you know, I live in Ashland, the second town along the route - the runners literally run by the end of my street. Every year, the neighborhood kids get together and walk down to the route, looking forward to high-fiving the runners, ringing cowbells, and cheering them on. After the runners clear past our spot and race on, we usually have a block party to celebrate Patriots Day.
As a parent, I remember trying to explain the unprovoked violence in 2013, brought against the very same people we were cheering on hours earlier. The conversations and efforts to reassure our kids they were safe will remain with me always. This experience was the catalyst that prompted me to start running. In the aftermath of the bombing, I feel it is important for our kids to see regular people running in this race. I want our kids to know that fear should not prevent us from taking up tough challenges, stay focused on a difficult goal and persevere. This is the inspiration that drives me to keep running.
I am raising funds to support my town. I want to further community outreach efforts, school programs, elder activities, and public safety projects. I hope that you will join me in this effort.
