POLICE OFFICER (NON-CIVIL SERVICE LATERAL TRANSFER):

The Town of Ashland Police Department is currently seeking highly motivated experienced police officers for NON-CIVIL SERVICE lateral transfer to the Ashland Police Department. This lateral transfer is ONLY for applicants that are currently working in a full-time capacity and certified by the Massachusetts Municipal Police Training Committee.

Minimum Requirements
Lateral Transfer Officers must meet the following qualifications necessary for consideration:
To be considered eligible for this position, applicants must hold current FT Police Officer status
A FT enforcement officer from any U.S. law enforcement agency must have experience in his/her agency to be considered as a Lateral Transfer
A FT Lateral Transfer applicant must be in good standings with the National Decertification Index (NDI)
Must be of good moral character and fit for employment, as determined by the POST Commission

Additional Qualifications
Candidates must have the highest integrity, excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to solve problems in high stress situations.

Salary & Compensation
Salary range based on past experience: $26.31 - $36.43 (As of July 1, 2023)

Other Compensation:
Contractual educational incentive for associates, bachelors, and master degrees
Shift differential for evening and overnight shifts
Holiday pay
Full and part time specialty stipends
Longevity pay after 5 years of service
Annual uniform allowance

POLICE OFFICER (NON-CIVIL SERVICE ENTRY LEVEL):

The Ashland Police Department is accepting applications from high caliber, motivated and qualified FT Entry Level Officer candidates looking to join their team.

Minimum Requirements
To be considered an eligible candidate, Ashland Police Department requires applicants receive a 70% and above on the PES Entry Exam, and meet or exceed the Minimum Requirements as specified below:

Be a U.S. Citizen (Birth or naturalization)
Be at least 21 years of age upon submission of application
Possess a high school diploma or GED Certificate. Preference will be given to those candidates that have a college degree(s), military experience, or combination
Possess a valid Massachusetts driver's license
Have the ability to obtain an unrestricted Massachusetts Class A License to Carry a Firearm
Must take and pass a Psychical Abilities Test (PAT's)
Must successfully complete a pre-employment psychological fitness for duty examination
Must take and pass a pre-employment medical screening
Have a strong character background
Be willing and able to meet the duties and obligations of an Ashland Police Officer
Must live within 15 miles of Ashland (as the crow flies, border to border), prior to the end of your "Probationary Period" (one year upon successful completion of the Field Training Program)
Have the ability to successfully complete the MPTC FT Police Academy
Not be a convicted felon, or have convictions from another jurisdiction that would be treated as a felony in the Commonwealth
Not smoke and stay a non-smoker. Smoking tobacco products is prohibited as outlined by G.L. Chapter 41 Section 101A of the Massachusetts General Laws
Must be free of tattoos past the wrist towards the hand, on the neck, or on the face
Must pass thorough background investigation
Receive a passing grade of 70% and above on the PES Entry Exam

PUBLIC SAFETY COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER:

The Ashland Police Department is currently accepting resumes/applications for the position of Full Time and per-diem public safety telecommunications officers. We are seeking individuals who are highly motivated and possess strong communication & interpersonal skills, maintain attention to detail, and demonstrate a positive attitude while adapting and reacting to sudden changes in a fast paced public safety environment.

Schedule: 
12-hour shifts, rotating 4 shifts on followed by 4 days off

Minimum Requirements
Must have a High School Diploma and/or GED
Must be able to work any of the designated 12-hour shifts for a 24/7 operation, including holidays and weekends
Two or more years of experience as a public safety dispatcher, E911 and APCO Certifications is preferred, but not necessary
Must have excellent vision and hearing accuracy
Must possess excellent typing and related computer skills
Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously
Ability to acquire and maintain job-related certifications and training requirements
Successfully pass a complete criminal background investigation/check

Additional Qualifications
Prior public safety dispatching experience is preferred, but not necessary.
Candidates must have the highest integrity, excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to solve problems in high stress situations.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Receiving, processing, and dispatching emergency and non-emergency calls for service (police, fire, and EMS)
Operating and maintaining proficient use of all communications equipment
Handling stressful situations and working well under pressure for an extended period of time
Greeting the public

Salary Range: $25.70 - $29.53 / hour
