Hi! My name is Chris Avery and I am a lifetime resident of Ashland and an employee of the Ashland Public Schools. I developed my love of running as part of the Ashland High School Track Team in 1983; running has been a big part of my life ever since. I’ve enjoyed participating in 5K and 10K races from the Turkey Trot to the Run to Home Base at Fenway Park to the Old Port Half Marathon in Portland Maine.
For the past 15 years, I have had the pleasure of coaching some phenomenal athletes on Ashland’s cross country, indoor and outdoor track teams. While I am more often on the motivational side of running, completing the Boston Marathon has been a dream of mine ever since my high school friend, Denise Turchi, and I spontaneously hopped into the race some years ago. We made it to Wellesley before being sidetracked by the lure of the local ice cream shop, and I’ve watched and waited from the sidelines ever since.
This year, I turn 50 years old and as part of my birthday celebration, I’m determined to go the whole 26.2miles! Not only do I get the opportunity to check one item off the bucket list, I am also able to continue to support the town I grew up in and provide funding for my beloved Clocker Community. I am grateful for this opportunity and appreciate the support and encouragement in helping me complete the 2020 Boston Marathon.
