Sending Sunshine: Community Letter Writing *For All Ages

Wednesday, November 29, 2023

Do you love letter writing or want to spend some family time doing this time honored tradition in service of senior citizens? Sending Sunshine is a nonprofit organization in which people of all ages make thoughtful cards directed to senior citizens all over the United States and Canada. This is a perfect opportunity to make cards with a meaning, for high school students to get volunteering hours, or for family time! Join your community and spread sunshine to senior citizens!

This is a collaborative program between Natalia Melnick, the Ashland Library, and the Town of Ashland. Michael Herbert, our Town Manager, has pledged to provide the supplies for this program. We love Intergenerational programming that supports our most vulnerable!

From Natalia:

Hi! My name is Natalia Melnick and I go to Ashland High School. I wanted to start this club because I truly believe you can make anyone happy with a thoughtful message! Why not support our senior citizens in the process. On top of this, I enjoy my time running at my schools track team and managing my school’s debate team. I also have a little sister at the Warren school! I am looking forward to spreading some sunshine with you :)

About Sending Sunshine:

Founded by four friends, Sending Sunshine is a registered charity that seeks to provide a ray of happiness in the lives of the elderly living in US and Canadian care facilities. Sending Sunshine collects cards containing uplifting handwritten messages written by people in the US, Canada, and beyond. Your cards are delivered to various care facilities, where they are ultimately distributed to the residents. By receiving a handmade card, it is our hope that senior citizens will experience more joy and love in their everyday lives.

Please register if you'd like reminders, feel free to sign up for as many instances you can make! Walk-ins are welcome, so just come by if the time suits you, too - either way, all are welcome!
