Tuesday, October 11, 2022

Are you someone who loves to read scary stories into the night? Do you shiver when you see a Stephen King book at the library? Do you get a thrill from looking for the TSTL campers or anyone wearing a Jason mask? If so, join us for a conversation with horror writers SA Barnes, Christopher Golden, and Anne Heltzel as they discuss their books and the appeals of reading horror novels.

About our authors

S.A. BARNES works in a high school library by day, recommending reads, talking with students, and removing the occasional forgotten cheese stick as bookmark. Barnes has published numerous novels across different genres under the pen name Stacey Kade. She lives in Illinois with more dogs and books than is advisable and a very patient husband.

CHRISTOPHER GOLDEN is the New York Times bestselling, Bram Stoker Award-winning author of such novels as Road of Bones, Ararat, Snowblind, and Red Hands. With Mike Mignola, he is the co-creator of the Outerverse comic book universe, including such series as Baltimore, Joe Golem: Occult Detective, and Lady Baltimore. As an editor, he has worked on the short story anthologies Seize the Night, Dark Cities, and The New Dead, among others, and he has also written and co-written comic books, video games, screenplays, and a network television pilot. In 2015 he founded the popular Merrimack Valley Halloween Book Festival. He was born and raised in Massachusetts, where he still lives with his family. His work has been nominated for the British Fantasy Award, the Eisner Award, and multiple Shirley Jackson Awards. For the Bram Stoker Awards, Golden has been nominated ten times in eight different categories, and won twice. His original novels have been published in more than fifteen languages in countries around the world.

In addition to Just Like Mother,  Anne Heltzel has written and ghostwritten nearly a dozen other books for people of all ages (many under pseudonyms). She moved to New York City in 2006 to enter an MFA program at The New School, and from there got her first job in publishing, at a literary agency. Now in addition to writing books, Anne works as an editorial director at Abrams Books, where she specializes in entertainment publishing and content development in the children's division. Anne recently relocated from Brooklyn to an old house in the Hudson Valley with her partner (he is also a horror writer!) and their hyperactive cattle dog.
