Virtual: The History Of James Taylor & Carly Simon

In the early 1970’s the singer-songwriter ruled the radio. Carole King, John Denver, Joni Mitchell, Cat Stevens…but the era’s ultimate power couple were husband and wife James Taylor and Carly Simon. Using performance and interview clips, trace the arc of their careers from “Fire and Rain” and “You’re So Vain” to “Shower The People” and “Anticipation.” The marriage didn’t last, but the hits sure have! Led by Gary Wenstrup, who has taught courses on the Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel and Motown Records for the Continuing Education Departments of College of DuPage and Oakton (IL) Community College. Wenstrup has lectured at over 80 public libraries. Besides being featured on radio broadcasts and in newspaper articles, he is also a reoccurring guest on the widely respected podcast “Something About The Beatles.”

ON ZOOM: ELL Conversation Circles w/ the Hopkinton Library *For Adults

Ashland Library is thrilled to be partnering with the Friends of the Hopkinton Public Library to bring ELL (England Language Learner) services to our community! So, if you or someone you know is looking for some support in learning and practicing English skills as well as creating a support circle for yourself, please feel free to join us either in-person or online (meetings alternate between in person and virtual - this week's meeting is ON ZOOM!)

(In-Person) Lego Club for Kids Age 5 & Up

Each child will be given a box filled with an assortment of Lego blocks to build a creation using only what's inside the box within the 45 minute time limit. Caregivers please stay in the room with the kids as they work on their creations. The finished creations will be displayed in the Children's Room for a few weeks.

Art for Adults with Nancy Atkinson

We are so excited that Nancy Atkinson, a long time fan of the Ashland Library, is going to help us be our best artists in this monthly series! Every month, Nancy will teach us drawing techniques with different mediums, papers, and ideas. We hope you can join us and up your artistry game.

Virtual: Hidden Figures & Other Women of NASA

Even before the space age began when the U.S.S.R. orbited Sputnik in 1957, women worked at NASA although many were excluded from the early days of the astronaut corps. Through the movie Hidden Figures, we learned that NASA even had women, many of whom were African American, working as “Human Computers” performing highly complex mathematical calculations by hand. Celebrate Women’s History Month and explore the lives of the many women who made their dreams of careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics come true at NASA, and who have been an essential part of the space program since its inception.
